lordcfg, the set-up program
lordcfg (LORDCFG.EXE on DOS) sets up a LORD FP game: the options in lord.ini, tournaments, players, the item and monster tables, LADY events and Other Places. In LORD Server it is the console's config <game> command and the sysop's [!] menu option.
lordcfg [-p gamedir]
The main menu
| Key | Screen |
|---|---|
| 1 | Game options: everything in lord.ini (see Game options (lord.ini)). |
| 2 | Tournament settings. |
| 3 | Player editor. |
| 4 | Weapons, armour, masters, monsters and the dragon. |
| 5 | Game status. |
| N | Node set-up (DOS): drop file type, where the BBS writes it, and the COM port, for each node (NODE<n>.DAT). |
| O | Other Places: add and remove IGMs in 3RDPARTY.DAT (see In-Game Modules). |
| E | LADY events: install, uninstall, turn on or off (see LADY scripts). |
| 6, 7 | Today's and yesterday's daily log. |
| 8 | Synchronet install help (Linux). |
| R | Reset the game: deletes players, mail, logs and talk; keeps lord.ini and the tables. |
| G | Register LORD 4.06 (shown when 4.06's own LORDCFG is in the game directory): how to enter the code with it; 4.06 checks its own code. |
| Q | Quit. |
On each form, Up and Down choose a field, Enter changes it (yes/no fields switch), and the line at the bottom explains the chosen field.
2: Tournament settings
A tournament ends the game when a player reaches the goals, or after a number of days.
| Field | lord.ini | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Tournament enabled | [Tournament] Enabled | Turn the tournament on. |
| Days (0 = first to the goals) | Days | How many days it runs. |
| Goal: experience | Experience | |
| Goal: dragon kills | DragonKills | |
| Goal: player kills | PlayerKills | |
| Goal: level | Level | 0 to 12. |
| Goal: lays | Lays |
W changes what ranks a days-mode tournament (WinStat): XP, dragon kills, player kills, level or lays.
3: The player editor
Pick a player to edit every field:
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Name | The character's name (up to 20). |
| BBS real name (login key) | The name the game knows the BBS user by: the drop file's real name. On LORD Server, the account name (Bob@EXB). |
| Sex | M or F. |
| Level | 1 to 12. |
| Experience, Hit points, Max hit points, Strength, Defence, Charm | |
| Gold on hand, Gold in bank, Gems | |
| Weapon number, Armour number (0-15) | Sets the number only; use W to match the name. |
| Forest fights left, Player fights left | Today's. |
| Class | 1 Death Knight, 2 Mystic, 3 Thief. |
| Death Knight, Mystical, Thieving skill | 0 to 40. |
| Dragon kills, Player kills, Kids | |
| Has horse, Has amulet of accuracy | |
| Dead | Turning it off for a killed player also sets their hit points back to full: the game counts 0 hit points as dead. |
| Today's counts | Fights, skill uses, seen master, dragon and bard, flirted … |
Other keys: a new day for one player or everyone (the game's own new-day reset at their next login, for players who have already played today); delete a player; clear stuck “on now” flags.
4: The tables
Weapons, armour, masters (trainers), forest monsters and the Red Dragon. Changes are written to weapon.bin, armour.bin, trainers.bin, lenemy.bin and dragon.bin in the game directory; lord.js reads the same files. Delete a file to go back to the built-in table. Ignore lenemy.bin/dragon.bin in the game options turns the monster files off.
E: LADY events
The LORD 4.06 tools
lordcfg -406 -p <LORD 4.06 directory>
LORDCFG.EXE /406 on DOS. Tools for the original DOS LORD 4.06 game, not this port:
- a player editor for its
PLAYER.DAT: all fields, today's counts, a new day for one player or everyone, clear “playing now”; - Register.
The first change in a session copies PLAYER.DAT to PLAYER.BAK. Players marked as playing now can be edited, but their game may overwrite the change.
