Drop files
A drop file is written by the BBS for each caller: who they are, their time left and their terminal. LORD FP reads all the common ones.
Linux and Windows
-d gives the drop file, or the node directory holding one. Files are read by name:
| File | BBS software |
|---|---|
DOOR32.SYS | Mystic, Synchronet, most newer BBSes. |
DOOR.SYS | GAP (Synchronet's GAP types, many others). |
DORINFOx.DEF | RBBS / QuickBBS. |
CHAIN.TXT | WWIV. |
CALLINFO.BBS | Wildcat. |
SFDOORS.DAT | Spitfire. |
PCBOARD.SYS | PCBoard. |
EXITINFO.BBS | RemoteAccess (name only). |
Given a directory, the first found in that order is used (DORINFO<node>.DEF before DORINFO1.DEF). lord -d <file> -i shows what the game reads from it.
DOOR32.SYS has no screen rows, so give them with -r (Synchronet: -r %r); the default is 24.
DOS
NODE<n>.DAT (lordcfg's N) says which type and where: BBSTYPE DOORSYS, DORINFO, WWIV, WILDCAT, SPITFIRE, PCBOARD or DOOR32, and BBSDROP the directory (D:\ with Synchronet's dosemu2). The COM port comes from the drop file, else COMPORT in NODE<n>.DAT.
Who is who
Players are matched to BBS users by the real name in the drop file, as lord.js does (the alias if there is no real name). If a BBS user's real name changes, they get a new character. On LORD Server the real name is the account name (Bob or Bob@EXB).
