The Lua bot
emberbot.lua (in REACHB04.ZIP) is a script for SyncTERM-Lua, the BBS terminal with Lua scripting (download it from the LORD Server page). It plays one day of Ember Reach for you, then quits back to the BBS. It's for testing, and for players who want to see the game played.
Using it
- Copy
emberbot.luainto SyncTERM-Lua's scripts folder (or anywhere). - Log on to the BBS and start Ember Reach.
- At the welcome question, the overnight report or the main menu, press Alt-S and give the path of
emberbot.lua. - Press Alt-S again at any time to stop it and play yourself.
It plays the house of the BBS user you are logged on as. If you have no house yet, it founds one named after you. Each run it looks at the systems it knows, sends scouts out, settles free worlds, orders Seeders, buildings and warships, sets research, and reads the report, news and messages. It stops after 30 minutes at most.
Its files
Written next to the script:
| File | What's in it |
|---|---|
emberbot-<user>-<date>.log | Everything it did that day |
emberbot-errors.log | Problems only, from every run: ERROR (the door reported an error, or a screen it couldn't get past), WIDE (a screen line 80 columns or wider), REFUSED (an order the game turned down), WARN (anything else odd) |
emberbot-<user>-state.lua | What it has learnt about the map |
Speed
By default it waits a second after each key and three seconds on each order's result, so you can watch it. Set KEY_DELAY and READ_DELAY near the top of the script to 0 to make it play at full speed.
