Every player has an account on the server, and a character in each game they play.
Telnet players make an account (a name and a password) the first time: they type NEW at the name prompt. Then they log in with it. AllowNewUsers=0 stops new accounts; adduser still makes them. Players change their password from the game menu (P).
Names are 2 to 30 characters: letters, digits, spaces and - _ . '. They start with a letter or digit. Passwords are stored salted and hashed in users.dat.
BBS players get an account the first time they come, with no password: the BBS has already logged them in.
RLoginAllow, the account has their BBS name (Bob).Bob@EXB). So the same name on two BBSes is two players.
An rlogin account can't log in by telnet, and an rlogin can't use the name of a telnet account. passwd <name> <pw> turns an rlogin account into a telnet one.
Characters in BBS names that accounts don't allow are dropped; a name with nothing usable left is refused with “can't be used here”.
Inside each game, players make their LORD character as usual: an alias, a gender and a class. An account can have a character in every game. The game matches a character to its account by the account name (the “real name” in the drop file the server writes), so renaming or deleting an account leaves its characters behind.
Sysops (sysop <name>, or Sysops= in lordsrv.ini) get:
Only make trusted accounts sysops. A BBS account (Bob@EXB) can be made a sysop like any other.

To stop a player playing one game only, use lordcfg's player editor for that game.
